September 23, 2026: Chairman WAPDA Lt Gen Muhammad Saeed (Retd) today had a meeting with Chairman China Gezhouba Group of Companies (CGGC) International Zhang Jun. Matters relating to Dasu Hydropower Project came under detailed discussion during the meeting.
The issues hindering progress on the project were deliberated at length. The meeting was also briefed about the targets and progress on various work fronts of the project.
Speaking on the occasion, Chairman WAPDA said that Dasu Hydropower Project is of vital importance for energy security of Pakistan and must be completed without any further delay. He emphasized that CGGC should deploy additional resources required to accelerate the pace of construction work and meet the targets as per the timelines, which is a contractual obligation on its part. He further said that WAPDA will also extend full support to CGGC in accordance with the contractual provisions to achieve the completion targets.
Chairman CGGC International assured WAPDA of accelerating work on the project through deployment of additional resources to meet the construction milestones.
Dasu is a World Bank-funded hydropower project being constructed across River Indus in Upper Kohistan District of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The project has an installed generation capacity of 4320 MW and is planned to be completed in two stages. At present, Stage-I, with a generation capacity of 2160 MW, is under construction, while Stage-II of 2160 MW generation capacity, will be taken up later.
