The Tarbela Reservoir has filled to its maximum conservation level of 1,550 feet above mean sea level, marking a significant achievement during the ongoing high-flow season. Resultantly, about 5.58 million-acre feet (MAF) of live (useable) water is now available in the Reservoir for regulated releases to support irrigation needs for the upcoming crop seasons. This will also enhance the operational efficiency of Tarbela Hydel Power Station, enabling increased generation of clean, green and low-cost electricity for the National Grid.
It is important to note that Tarbela continues to play a vital role for sustainable socio-economic development in Pakistan. It has so far released about 422 MAF of stored water for the agriculture sector, in addition to contributing more than 623 billion environment-friendly and the most affordable electricity to the National Grid. Tarbela Dam has provided economic benefits to the tune of US$ 460 billion to Pakistan since 1974.
