This project is located on Indus River upstream of its confluence with Gilgit river, about 83 Km from Gilgit and 610 km from Islamabad. (Gilgit-Baltistan). It is ready for construction with completion date set to be 9 years from commencement. Installed capacity is planned to be 7100 MW while annual energy generated will be 24,760 GWh.
Status:
Feasibility Study, Detailed Engineering Design, and preparation of Tender Documents completed by JV of Mott Mac Donald Ltd. (Lead Partner), Sogreah, SAS, Nippon Koei Co. Ltd., MM Pakistan (Pvt.) Ltd. & DMC on 30.09.2013.
Project Cost was updated to the rates of the year 2017 amounting to Rs. 1,529,292 Million (excluding Transmission Line) and will be submitted for approval of a competent forum after firming up financing for the project.
WAPDA requested MoW&P vide letter dated 01.04.2016 to approach the Economic Affairs Division (EAD) to explore the possibility of foreign funding for the Project.
Economic Affair Division (EAD) raised some queries on financing and status of land acquisition which were replied to vide letter dated 24.08.2016 through MoW&P.
Ministry of Water Resources vide letter dated 20.11.2017 apprised Wapda regarding the efforts made by EAD for arranging to finance the project. No donor (IDB, ADB, World Bank, ECO Coordination Countries, Paris Club Countries, JICA Japan, China Embassy/China Exim bank, or US Agency) has yet shown interest/commitment in financing.
