THAKOT HYDROPOWER PROJECT

Location

Thakot dam site is located in a narrow section of Indus River about 2 km upstream of Besham Town 270 km from Islamabad. The project layout is proposed on the right bank with powerhouse 15 km downstream of Thakot Bridge.

PRESENT STATUS / PROGRESS  
  • The Project was identified by MONENCI in "Inventory and Ranking Study" in November 1984.

  • Hydro Planning Organization (HPO), WAPDA reviewed the project layout and updated capacity to 4000 MW.

  • The Project is ranked third after Diamer Basha Dam, Dasu and Bunji.

  • Govt. of Pakistan approved PC-II for Feasibility Study on June 18, 2012, at a cost of Rs. 719.628 Million Foreign Component of Rs. 303.139 Million.

  • Six (06) prequalified firms submitted RFP documents on March 07, 2013, Evaluation of Technical Proposal is in process will be completed shortly.

  • Evaluation of Consultants proposed is in progress for approval.
