REHABILITATION
OF RENALA HYDROPOWER PROJECT |
| WAPDA has planned to
rehabilitate the existing 84 years old Renala Hydel Power Station on
LBDC (RD 160 +686) to enhance its capacity from 1.1 MW to 4.0 MW by
utilizing full available discharge of 170 m3/Sec in LBDC at Renala,
against the existing use of 71m3/sec. Annual Energy Generation from
Renala Hydel Power Station after proposed Rehabilitation is
approximately 25.6 GWh. Estimated cost for the proposed Rehabilitation
Scheme is about Rs. 1000 million.
Feasibility Report of the proposed Rehabilitation was prepared by G.M (Hydro) Planning WAPDA in 2007. Before proceeding for implementation of the Project involving changes in the existing Power Channel off taking from LBDC, formal consent of Punjab Irrigation & Power Deptt was requested on 06.08.2007. Following consensus was developed in various meetings between WAPDA and Punjab I&P Department. |
On the basis of above technical consensus WAPDA requested Secretary I&P Deptt, Punjab vide letter dated 09.06.2009 to issue a letter of Consent/No objection for WAPDA's proposed Rehabilitation Hydel Power Station. |

| Present Status
Updated Feasibility study was finalized by G.M Hydro planning office in light of comments of G.M Hydel (Development) in October 2011. Case for concept clearance will be shortly forwarded to competent forum i.e. CDWP/CCC, Planning & Development Division GoP Islamabad after concurrence of WAPDA Authority. Arrangement of Finance and preparation of PC-I will be taken up simultaneously after the aforementioned concept clearance. |
