Diamer Basha Dam


basha2Location: The project is located on Indus River, about 315 km upstream of Tarbela Dam, 180 km downstream of the Gilgit-Baltistan capital Gilgit city and 40 km downstream of Chilas city (refer location map). The proposed RCC dam would have a maximum height of 272 m, and impound a reservoir of about 8.1million acre feet (MAF), with live storage of 6.4 MAF. Mean annual discharge of Indus River at the site is 1977 cumecs. The dam will impound 15% of the annual river flow. The project would cover an area of 110 km2 and the reservoir would extend 100 km upstream of the dam site upto Raikot Bridge on Karakoram Highway (KKH).

Supervision Consultants

Preliminary works including Project colony are being constructed through WAPDA Self finance while Land Acquisition & Resettlement and construction of model village are being carried out through GOP funding.

EOI for hiring of Consultancy Services for Main Dam is published and submission date is upto 15.02.2017. 

Contractor Different contractors are working on 14 contract packages of Project Colony at Thor Valley and 7 Contracts of Composite Model Village-II at Harpan Das, Chilas.
Resettlement Activities Three (3) Composite Model Villages at Thak Das, Harpan Das and Kino Das with all the amenities shall be developed for resettlement of 4228 affected households / families. Each affected households / families shall be given a residential plot of one kanal free of cost. The construction work of Composite Model Village–II (Harpan Das) is underway. Whereas site for Kino Das has been changed with Sagachal Das on the demand of locals by GB Administration and Notification of Section-4 for land acquisition of Sagachal Das has been issued.
Donor Agency After non availability of firm commitment from donor agencies, GOP has approved financial strategy, presented to Cabinet Committee on Energy on 30.11.2016 by Ministry of Water & Power, for implementation of DBDP.
