July 3, 2016. The Pakistan Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) has been carrying out construction work round-the-clock under accelerated programme to complete the 1410 MW-Tarbela 4th Extension Hydropower Project. As concrete pouring was going on at the site last night, the scaffolding for concrete work downstream of Unit No. 17 collapsed at about 11.
Lahore – July 1, 2016: The Pakistan Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) hydel power stations delivered as many as 33.154 billion units of low-cost hydel electricity to the National Grid in the fiscal year 2015-16. This is the highest-ever generation from hydel source in Pakistan. Previous maximum hydel generation was 31.5 billion units which was recorded during 2014 -15.
June 22, 2016: In what can be termed a significant development towards achieving the much-awaited financial close of the strategically important 969 MW-Neelum Jhelum Hydropower Project (NJHP), the Pakistan Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) today entered into a financing agreement amounting to Rupees 100 billion with a consortium of 16 banks led by National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) for raising Pakistan’s largest Shariah compliant infrastructure corporate Sukuk, based on Diminishing Musharaka which is structured by NBP Aitemaad.
Lahore – June 17, 2016: The Pakistan Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) is executing Tarbela 4th Extension Hydropower Project (T4) to generate 1410-MW electricity with its scheduled completion in February 2018. However, an accelerated construction programme was devised with approval of World Bank - financer of the project - to complete the project by mid 2017 to benefit from the high water flow season of the year.
Lahore – June 7, 2016: The Pakistan Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) and Punjab University Department of Environmental Sciences jointly organised speech contest and poster-making competition in connection with World Environment Day. The purpose for holding the competitions was to create awareness among youth for environment protection.
Lahore – June 2, 2016: The hydel power stations owned and operated by the Pakistan Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) delivered 3459 million units of low-cost hydel electricity to the National Grid in May 2016 as compared to 3290 million units generated during the corresponding period last year. This generation registered an increase of 169 million units (5%) at a time when the country is in dire need of electricity.
