DARAWAT DAM PROJECT

1. Location
 

It is located near village Jhangri about 20 kms from Super Highway (Lower Kohistan) at about 70 kms West of Hyderabad and 135 kms North East of Karachi across Nai Baran River in Thatta / Jamshoro districts of Sindh Province.

2. Scope of Work Government of Pakistan intends to develop land and water resources of the country for irrigated agriculture development, hydropower, flood control, socio economic uplift, and emancipation of poor and needy women of the area.

7. Salient Features

118 ft high Concrete Faced Rockfill Dam (CRFD) will create gross storage of 121,790 AF and this storage will be used to irrigate 25,000 acres of Culturable Command Area alongwith hydropower generation of 450 KW (As per decision pf CDWP the power component will be implemented under public private partnership basis).

 8. Present Status / Progress

1. Tenders invited on November 16, 2009 and awarded to M/s Sinoydro - MAJ JV at Contract     Cost of Rs. 7.555 B.
2. The president, Islamic, Republic of Pakistan performed ground breaking of the project on     January 2, 2010.
3. The Prime Minister, Islamic Republic of Pakistan and the Deputy Prime Minister, Peoples     Republic of China graced the contract signing ceremony of the project with their     presence on June 9, 2010 during their visit to Pakistan.
4. The Contractor mobilized to site w.e.f. June 30, 2010. Dam will be completed by Dec.      2012 and Project by July 2013. 60% work completed.
5. Exim Bank of China completed evaluation the Project to provide US$ 76 Million. The     Agreement signing is expected in September-October 2012.
6. PSDP share has already been paid to the Contractor. Release of EXIM Bank share        awaited.
7. Revised PC-I amounting to Rs. 9.394 Billion approved by ECNEC on August 16, 2012.
8. The M/s. Corporate Australia Pvt. Ltd has shown interest to introduce corporate farming     in the command area of Darawat Dam Project. Being State land owned by Govt. of Sindh     WAPDA has already contacted Govt. of Sindh for introduction of Corporate Farming in the     Command Area of the Project.
